Di María reveals Ronaldo’s human side: I was very surprised by his presence

Ángel Di María has shared a touching story from his time at Real Madrid, revealing a lesser-known side of Cristiano Ronaldo, away from the pressure and rivalry of the pitch.

The Argentine player revealed that on his first birthday with Real Madrid, he decided to organize a small party with some friends and teammates.

Among the guests, he had decided to send an invitation to Cristiano Ronaldo – more as a friendly gesture than with real expectations.

“I told Cristiano that he was welcome to my house if he wanted to come. I didn’t expect him to come, but he sent me a message confirming his attendance,” Di María confessed.

The surprise was even greater when Ronaldo appeared and sat with everyone present, even though they were drinking alcohol – something the Portuguese is known not to do.

“He sat outside with my friends who were drinking alcohol. Even though he doesn’t drink himself, he stayed with them without any problem. Honestly, I was very surprised by his presence.”

Di María highlights the contrast between Ronaldo on and off the pitch:

“On the pitch he won everything, with that winning mentality that clearly showed that he was number one. But off the pitch, he is a completely different person – a truly wonderful man.”
