Real Madrid barely overcomes Talavera and advances to the King’s Cup
Real Madrid have secured their place in the next round of the Copa del Rey after beating Talavera 3-2 away in a match that was more difficult than expected for “Los Blancos”.
The Madrid team started the match on the attack, creating several clear chances in the first half, but home goalkeeper Jaime Gonzalez was in excellent form with several crucial saves.
The breakthrough came in the 41st minute, when Kylian Mbappé converted from the penalty spot, a controversial decision that was not reviewed due to the lack of VAR.
Just a few minutes later, the Frenchman shone again, penetrating the area and shooting towards goal; after a deflection by defender Fernando, the ball ended up in the net for the score of 2-0.
In the second half, Talavera did not give up and reduced the deficit in the 80th minute with a goal by Nahuel Arroyo, bringing the excitement back to the match.
When the home team was increasing the pressure, Mbappé completed his excellent performance by scoring the third goal for Real Madrid, giving his team a breather.
However, Talavera scored again in extra time with Gonzalo Ignacio Di Renzo, for 3-2, and came close to equalizing in the final moments. A decisive save by Andriy Lunin preserved the lead and ensured Real Madrid’s passage to the next round.
Despite the difficulties, the Madrid team achieved their objective and continue their journey in the King’s Cup.
