Ronaldo doesn’t see Cristiano as the best in history
The debate over who is the greatest footballer of all time continues to divide fans across generations.
While many see Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as the two main candidates, Brazilian icon Ronaldo Nazario believes history should be viewed from a different perspective.
In an interview with ESPN, the two-time World Cup champion gave his honest opinion on CR7’s place in football history:
“Cristiano has scored goals in every possible way, even after changing positions. That’s not easy; he is undoubtedly one of the best players ever. But the best? I disagree. I respect his opinion, but I would put him in the top 10,” he said.
The Brazilian, widely regarded as one of the most talented strikers of all time, also spoke humbly about his place in the sport: “Honestly, I don’t like to get involved in these discussions. Some people have a very high opinion of themselves. I prefer to let others talk about my performances, what I’ve done and what I’ve been, rather than me talking about myself.”
Ronaldo’s comments came after Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent interview with journalist Piers Morgan, where the Portuguese forward discussed his legacy and future goals: “To change the history of Portugal and to hear people say ‘Cristiano has to win a World Cup to save his career’? No. I’ve won three titles with my country. Before that, Portugal hadn’t won anything. I’m happy — very happy — but that shouldn’t define you as a player. It’s not an obsession.”
However, the 2026 World Cup could offer a final opportunity for Cristiano Ronaldo to further elevate his status in football history.
For now, the debate between Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi and legends like Ronaldo Nazario remains as fierce and passionate as ever.
