Strong competition for Guehi: Liverpool favourites, but Barca and Bayern waiting
Crystal Palace defender Marc Guéhi has become one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe after his move to Liverpool collapsed, making him free to sign a free transfer in two weeks. Although Liverpool were seen as the favourites to sign him, the Reds have suffered a blow in the race.
Guéhi, 26, is one of several high-profile defenders set to be free agents next summer, along with Ibrahima Konaté and Dayot Upamecano.
Both Real Madrid and Barcelona have been linked with the player in recent months, with Barcelona sporting director Deco recently describing him as a “good player” but refusing to elaborate further on the matter.
According to Indykaila, Guéhi’s agent travelled to Liverpool on Wednesday to meet with the club’s representatives and further discuss a potential move. Guéhi has rejected previously agreed terms for a move in August, aware that as a free agent next summer he could command a huge signing bonus. Liverpool had planned to make a move for him in January.
In addition to Barcelona and Real Madrid, Bayern Munich have also been linked with Guéhi. However, the Bavarians believe Liverpool are well ahead in the race for the England defender. Meanwhile, Real Madrid appear to have pulled out of the race, considering the player’s demands too high.
