The Italian giant is after the Barcelona star
Barcelona have struggled through several transfer windows, being over their salary cap, but have still managed to sign star players such as Dani Olmo and Joan Garcia.
Next summer is expected to bring even more intrigue, as the Catalans will theoretically be looking to find a replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
The Polish striker is out of contract next season and has so far been tight-lipped about his future.
Reports from Catalonia suggest that Barcelona are keen to let him go and bring in a new option in the centre of attack.
For his part, Lewandowski appears open to accepting a reduced role in order to renew his contract, or move to another big European club, but is not considering a move to MLS or Saudi Arabia.
However, Lewandowski is already attracting interest from other clubs, should Barcelona decide to part ways with him.
The 37-year-old has been linked with AC Milan in recent weeks, and Tuttosport (via Sport) explains that Milan’s offensive has begun. Sporting director Igli Tare has met with Lewandowski’s agent, Pini Zahavi, and the Rossoneri would be willing to offer the Pole a contract longer than a year, with the aim of him retiring while still playing at a high level. Milan want Lewandowski and Luka Modric to lead them into a new era.
Although Barcelona may want to move on without Lewandowski, until they have assurances about their spending power, they are unlikely to sever ties with him. Even if Ferran Torres could become a regular option in the centre, Lewandowski showed against Celta Vigo the value of a classic “poacher” in the area. Unless they bring in a credible alternative, another season with Lewandowski could be their best option.
