Thiago Silva and Sergio Ramos aim for a return to Europe
Thiago Silva and Sergio Ramos are two great defenders, but with one turning 41 in September and the other turning 40 in March, signing them would be an act of faith.
The former AC Milan and Chelsea centre-back has decided to leave Fluminense six months before the end of his current contract, while the former Real Madrid legend has announced the end of his relationship with Monterrey.
Both would dearly love to return to the European football that really matters and have been linked with Serie A, but so far there has been no concrete move in that direction.
The link with Milan is more about nostalgia that will never fade, as Thiago Silva was an unforgettable pillar of that team, but there is nothing more to it than that.
The same goes for Sergio Ramos, who has written unforgettable pages in the history books of football, but given that clubs should look to the future and not the past, signing him would require an act of faith.
It is not just a question of the economics of these operations, but also their age.
