United want Real Madrid midfielder, the latter wants 100 million pounds
Manchester United are looking for a top-class midfielder and have plenty of players on their radar. They were trying to make a move for Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba.
However, the move fell through. Along with Baleba, Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson and Conor Gallagher are also on the list.
Now, they have added a Real Madrid midfielder to their list. But signing him won’t be easy for United, given the high price tag.
According to The Mirror, the Spanish giants have set a price tag of around £100m for Federico Valverde, causing tension as the two clubs remain tight-lipped behind the scenes.
Valverde’s relationship with Xabi Alonso has soured – with the midfielder considering his future, despite having a contract until 2029. Several other players are also unhappy with the way Alonso is managing the team at Real.
Ruben Amorim rates Valverde highly and would like to bring him to Old Trafford. United, however, believe his real value is closer to £70m.
That leaves the two sides far apart, even before talks have officially begun. And the politics between the two clubs have only added to the tension.
United and Real Madrid have a long history of failed or problematic deals, from the failed transfer of David De Gea in 2015 to Sir Alex Ferguson once declaring he would not sell Real “even a virus”.
Real are also experiencing tensions between Xabi Alonso and Vinicius Jr, as contract renewal talks continue to stall.
However, the manager insists he expected the challenges that come with such a demanding job.
For now, Valverde remains at the centre of this growing storm, and both United and Real Madrid know the situation could explode if the player decides to leave.
